A Letter from the Executive Director

November 21st, 2006

Dear Friends,

We recently completed our last director’s meeting for the 2006 season.  We had a fantastic review of our accomplishments for this past year and we also stated our goals for the 2007 season.  The directors and I would like to thank you for your financial gifts in our recent mailing.  Furthermore, I appreciate your continued interest in the Becker Fund’s activities and news.

We started the 2006 season with very specific goals:

  • Become federally authorized to operate as a 501 c 3 corporation
  • Expand our directors group with qualified and proven leaders marked with integrity
  • Administer our first grant award
  • Introduce our fund to the local media through press releases and interviews
  • Successfully create and manage a mailing for our supporters

All these tasks were completed by individuals that selflessly volunteered their time and talents.  We successfully met each goal that we set out to accomplish in 2006.  I am proud of that accomplishment and you should be as well.

As we move into 2007 we will continue to expand our activities in defense of our mission statement:   to create an awareness of the principles of restorative justice within the community and to serve as a catalyst for restorative justice programs that are currently operating in Waukesha County, Wisconsin.  Our goals for the year of 2007 are ambitious and specific:

  • Create a restorative justice brochure to help educate the community on the principles of restorative justice
  • Host an end of the year fundraising dinner for our supporters that will include a speech from a leader in the area of restorative justice
  • Award at least one grant to a restorative justice program operating in Waukesha County, WI
  • Conduct at least two media interviews highlighting the fund’s mission and activities

There is a major difference between the Becker Fund and the majority of other non-profit organizations that you hear about.  Our entire staff consists of volunteers who have given us their talents and steadfast commitments.  We are very proud of that fact for two reasons.  First, it means that we are sincere and dedicated to our mission statement.  Second, it means that it costs us much less to operate.  Or in other words, we are able to give more of our funds to the community.

I continue to ask you for your faithful support.  You can help us continue to give to our community though a financial gift, the volunteering of your time and talents or simply by encouraging your family and friends to find out more about the Becker Fund.  The best way to spread the news is by encouraging your friends and family to visit our website at: www.beckerfund.org.  We are in the process of making changes to the site that will make it much easier to navigate and even more attractive to visit.

Please have a safe and wonderful holiday season, everyone!  Thank you for your commitment to the Becker Fund in 2006 and all that you will help us to accomplish in 2007.

Sincerely,

Scott L. Becker
Executive Director
