2007 Annual Report

Seasons Greetings!

I am pleased to report that the Honorable Marianne E. Becker Fund has had a productive year.  As always, I thank our directors and volunteers for their dedication to our mission.  Furthermore, the financial support that we have received from our private and corporate friends has been strong.  Speaking on behalf of the directors, we thank you for your trust and generosity.

The Becker Fund awarded two grants this year.  This past June the Menomonee Falls Teen Court was given $1500.00.  This nine year old program was at risk of closing this summer because of severe funding cuts.  With the help of the Becker Fund we are confident the court will continue to serve the Menomonee Falls community.  Secondly in August, the Waukesha Teen Court was given $1500.00.  The Waukesha Teen Court is now operating and making a difference in their local community.  The Becker Fund more than tripled the amount of giving from this time last year.

The Becker Fund launched a brochure mailing late this summer.  The objective of the mailing was to educate and create an awareness of restorative justice in the community.  This task is an important part of our mission and our Directors continue to evaluate different methods to promote restorative justice in our community.

There will be a few changes to our Board of Directors at the end of this year.  Ms. Linda Georgeson and Ms. Mary Sloane will be leaving us after years of service.  Ms. Linda Georgeson has served us as an officer since helping to incorporate the fund in 2004.  On behalf of this organization, we thank them both for their efforts and we wish them all the best.

We are excited to announce the appointment of Mr. Mike Bundy and Mr. Tom McDonald to our Board of Directors.  Their combined service to Waukesha County exceeds 55 years.  Mr. McDonald currently works with the Waukesha County Department of Health and Human Services and is a member of the Advisory Committee for the Mediation and Restorative Justice Center in Waukesha.  Mr. Mike Bundy worked in the Waukesha County District Attorneys Office as an Assistant and Deputy District Attorney. Both professionals bring the Becker Fund significant experience in the area of restorative justice.  The Board of Directors is excited to begin work in January, 2008.

The Honorable Marianne E. Becker Fund is the only organization in the State of Wisconsin that exists to create an awareness of restorative justice in the community and that monitors and supports operating restorative justice programs in the Waukesha County community.  We are proud to be a beacon that individuals and programs turn to for their restorative justice resources.  Additionally and importantly, we are different from the majority or non profit organizations that you see and read about because the services that we give are provided by the hands and hearts of volunteers.

This is a spectacular time of the year.  On behalf of the Honorable Marianne E. Becker Fund, we wish you the warmest feelings of the holiday season with your families and close friends.  Thank you for your support and generosity in the past and all that you will help us to accomplish in the future.

Happy New Year,

Scott Becker
Executive Director
